On 23 March 2023, an agreement was signed by more than 100 member organisations made up of companies and associations, trade unions, training and research centres, including EUM, civic, environmental and cultural organisations. This agreement for Responsible Tourism aims to provide a solution to the sector that demands a country agreement to create a roadmap for the coming years.
What is Responsible Tourism?
Responsible Tourism is tourism that is part of the structure of the space and is adapted to the conditions of the place and the needs of the resident population and that, essentially, takes into account the impacts of the activity, both positive and negative.
In this context, tourism companies and institutions are committed to placing the natural and cultural heritage at the heart of tourism strategies. The model to which we aspire is a system that prioritises culture, landscape, heritage and the elements that make up the identity of Catalonia in the expression of tourism products.
José Antonio Donaire, professor at the University of Girona (UdG), has coordinated the entire project, bringing together more than 500 participants in the national commitment to responsible tourism.
EUM, as a university training centre, takes on the commitment and the challenge of preparing future generations of graduates in this umbrella of responsible tourism and who know how to respond to the challenges of the future.
