Presentation of the Report on the Calculation of the costs of storage, handling and custody of medicines in veterinary health centres, prepared by our professors Miguel Guillén Pujadas and Dr. Óscar Gutiérrez Aragón
This September, the Escola Universitaria Mediterrani (EUM) has published an academic report on the Calculation of the costs of storage, handling and custody of medicines in veterinary health centres, research carried out by Miguel Guillén Pujadas, professor of the Department of Business and Dr. Óscar Gutiérrez Aragón, director of the same department and professor at EUM.
The report responds to one of the current demands of the Spanish veterinary sector by addressing the challenges arising from Royal Decree 666/2023 in the regulation of the sale, dispensing and transfer of medicines in the veterinary sector, understanding the need to try to ensure business legitimacy and fair competition.
Its objective is to evaluate how this regulation affects the activity of veterinary health centres, with a particular focus on the non-profit medicinal product transfer, seeking a coherent and effective regulation that promotes fairness in the market and the financial sustainability of the sector and of the companies.
Based on the results obtained in the research, it is concluded that the appropriate price for the transfer of medicines in veterinary health centres will be constituted by the cost price of the medicine increased by 19.05%, which corresponds, on the one hand, to indirect costs and, on the other, to the amount derived from the cost of personnel, estimated at one euro per minute, adjusted for the time spent attending to the client.
This indicator ensures that the process of transferring medicines ensures that veterinary health centres do not incur losses.
