Presentation of the Socioeconomic and Labour Report of the Veterinary Sector in Spain, Edition 2024, prepared by EUM professors Dr. Óscar Gutiérrez Aragón and Dr. Miguel Guillén Pujadas
On 20 December 2024, the Spanish Veterinary Business Confederation (CEVE) published the Socioeconomic and Labour Report on the Veterinary Sector in Spain, Edition 2024, an academic research carried out by Dr. Óscar Gutiérrez Aragón, director and professor of the Department of Business at the Mediterranean University School and Dr. Miguel Guillén Licitades, professor of the Department of Finance of the same department. The report shows that the Spanish veterinary sector, since 2015, has been growing steadily for several years, which gives it a remarkable economic strength. In any case, there are still indicators, mainly some of them related to employment, which, after having suffered severe losses during the economic crisis, have not yet achieved the desired recovery.
The signing of the two Collective Bargaining Agreements for Veterinary Centres and Services in 2020 and 2023 has helped to strengthen progress towards better working conditions for those who work in the sector. The wage increases of 4.5%, 3.5% and 3% agreed for the years 2023, 2024 and 2025, respectively, as well as other improvements in working conditions must allow progress towards a qualitative optimisation of veterinary employment that can coexist with a solid, stable and lasting social and economic development of the sector.
